Dear Zahasky family -- My wife and I were fortunate enough to visit Alaska two years ago and purchase one of your wonderful albums - The Alaska String Band. We loved it. As soon as I heard the Zahasky family’s arrangement of the song “I Always Will Remember You” my dream was to have folks in the Corydon Dulcimer Society be able to learn it. Please keep playing your music and please let me know if there are/will be any performances on the internet - it would be great. Your music is a treasure and I wish the best in your music adventure.

On May 7th we will be leaving San Francisco on the Dawn Princess.  It will be arriving in Juneau on May 11th and I wanted to know if you will be performing at the Salmon Bake that day.  I saw you and your family two years ago and hoped you would be there again.

Hi:  I met you when you were performing at the Salmon Bake last summer while I was traveling with my mother.  I really enjoyed watching you all perform!  What an amazing family!  I have daughters 17 and 14 so I also enjoyed the similarity in age.  You were our one opportunity to meet a family who lived in Alaska as most of our “cruise” tour was in touristy places.  So thank you for that!

Our family took a cruise to Alaska a few weeks back and we found the most unbelievable family band. The Alaska String Band. They have CD’s if you would like to hear them. My goodness they are fabulous. I know when you hear them you will want them there at Dollywood. They travel the lower 48 for a spell during the winter in their RV. You will not be disappointed!

Dear Paul, Melissa, Laura, Quinn and Abigail: My wife and I began our Alaskan adventure in Juneau with a visit to Mt. Roberts last June 2nd. We had the pleasure of hearing your group on that day and were completely delighted. In fact, you may (?) remember me as you entered the auditorium I cracked “You must be the Juneau Symphony Orchestra”. We have now enjoyed the Farther On album as well. Barbara and I will be back to Juneau on September 6th, arriving about 1 p.m. on the Regent 7 Seas Mariner. If you are performing on that day we would like to know. Or, if you are in town to say “hello” and purchase another of your CD’s. Our time is very limited that day, however I will schedule our day there accordingly…we are still looking at available excursions to sign on to. Thank you again for a most memorable and enjoyable time.

Hi Paul and family: During a recent trip to Alaska I had the great pleasure of listening to you and your family at the Gold Creek Salmon Bake. I just wanted to write and let you know how much I enjoyed your performance. It is so rare these days to find a family such as yours playing such delightful folk songs and melodies. Having been a school teacher for the past 40 years, I was most impressed by the wonderful talents of your children and can only congratulate you and your wife who have obviously done a great job with their education, but even more importantly in conveying to them an obvious love of and appreciation for good music. I am now back home in Australia, but thankfully I can still enjoy your music on your CD, Farther On. I trust you and your family will continue to perform and delight your audiences and I wish every success for the future.

To the Zahasky Family -- This is just a note of thanks and appreciation for your kindness to me. In the 1st week of September 2006 my daughter and I had the pleasure of enjoying your show at the clam bake. What made it so memorable to me - it was my 86th birthday, your family serenaded with Happy Birthday, but a song special to me, Be Thou My Vision, it truly was the highlight of my trip. You may not remember this but I will never forget, I will be 89 this September and still remember that day. Thank You. God Bless you and your lovely family. (Yes, the Zahasky family does remember you and that special day!)

On a recent cruise to Alaska we were fortunate to hear a wonderful band in Juneau named the “Alaska String Band” consisting of a Mother and Father and 3 children. They were entertaining at the Mt. Roberts Tramway. In chatting with them afterwards this couple said they were married by a minister who is currently in Chilliwack, Canada. I didn’t get a name. I felt this was band information that was worth passing on to you for future reference. Their web site will show under “Alaska String Band”. From an avid bluegrass fan.

Hi -- I spoke with you in November or December about a family that performed in Haines; at the American Bald Eagle Foundation for the Eagle Festival. Folks come from all over the country and world to see the concentration of eagles in November on the Chilkat River. It’s awesome. Anyway, this family was great entertainment and everyone loved them, even myself and this type of music was not even my type, but I loved it. Their web page does not do them justice. I’m sending it again to you and I hope you might consider them for this years fair. They are truly delightful. Thanks.

Hello Zahasky Family…My husband and I saw you by chance while staying at the Trapp Family Lodge last November and what an impression you made on us. We purchased your CD, The Alaska String Band, and have played it so much, it’s a wonder it isn’t worn out! We talk about your family and your talent every chance we get (I guarantee you it’s all good). We know your home is quite a way from us, but we would like to know if you’ll be playing anywhere in our area anytime soon, i.e. Massachusetts or any of the New England States or nearby. Keep up the good work! You have a wonderful family.

Hello Mr. Zahasky and family: It is wonderful to hear from you and thank you for your kind and generous response. It is also very significant that you are doing a song about the Princess Sophia. I had such strong feelings when I dove that wreck in 2005. I look very much forward to purchasing a copy of your new CD when it is released, and will visit your website to stay up with it’s release. Your work is so wonderful and so full of depth and spirit. God Bless you and your family. And my heartfelt wishes to you for your new recording! And most of all thank you for making such beautiful music!

It gives us a great deal of pleasure to recommend the Alaska String Band: The Zahasky Family to you…This group is a perennial favorite in Juneau and around Alaska for their lively, high-quality string music. In our experience as presenters, we have found them to be especially pleasant and easy to work with. They are -- well organized, flexible, reliable, and very talented -- Overall, they are entirely delightful artists to present. We are always amazed by their versatility. They have a wide repertoire that adapts well to a variety of settings and audiences. In particular, we enjoy their family orientation and their dedication to education. Their concerts are relaxed, up-beat, and charming. Audiences love them. From the Juneau Arts and Humanities Council

I am pleased to recommend the Zahasky Family be a part of any event seeking wonderful music and a good time. The Zahasky Family is a fun and energetic band that brings smiles where ever they go. They were a joy to have as participants at the 2007 Alaska Bald Eagle Festival. They enthralled the audience with their music and stories making for the best performance we have had at the festival in years. The Zahasky Family brings to the stage a talent and energy that is hard to find anywhere else. We would be thrilled to have them back in Haines very soon to play again. My wife and I recently completed a 7 night cruise aboard the Diamond Princess disembarking at Whittier, Alaska on July 28, 2007. (Definitely the best of three cruises we have taken to date). While in Juneau, we had the opportunity to meet and listen to a very talented musical family (the Zahasky family) and I suggested to them they are of the same high quality of talent we became accustomed to while on ship.

At Gold Street Music, a monthly folk club, we’ve been fortunate enough to book the Alaska String Band several times. This band - father, mother and three children who range from 8 to 15 - is a multitalented group that is a guaranteed crowd pleaser. They sing and play everything from swing to gospel and bluegrass to folk. If you have a chance to hear them, grab it. You’ll be glad you did.

We met while all of you were playing music at the top of the tram in Juneau. I stated that your music was much better than anything we were listening to on board the Princess….If you do get a job on board, my wife Sue and I would book whatever cruise that you are on, just to hear your music.

Hi Paul and All! We weren’t kidding: we’d be delighted to host y’all for a visit, musical or otherwise…Aside from enjoying your company, music and food last weekend, we also enjoyed your DVD last night (finally slowed down enough to watch it) - great fun and beautiful. Your web site also looks great. It struck us that you shouldn’t have trouble finding a few gigs around here (if the world spins on a decent axis that is). With best wishes and thanks sent your family’s way from our family!

Hi Zahasky Family: Just a note to say that we very much appreciated the opportunity to meet you and hear you all play and sing at the Salmon Bake…Anyway, we really enjoy your CD, The Alaska String Band. All selections - wonderful music! Favorite song is “Master’s Design”. How beautiful! Paul, from your web site I see you wrote it as an allegory for your marriage. I must say, my wife and I appreciated it personally. Appreciated your video clips -introduction of family and songs! Love salmon very much but did not get a chance to try the Alaska Salmonbeary Jamb. If you folks plan to be in the DC area let us know. We would love to see you. Blessings. P.S. Is the soil there really so rich that it grows instruments?

Hello string band friends…Just dropping a quick note to see if you are coming to the “lower 48” this fall again? I am just starting today to book the TV show you were on last year “Live Wire”. We had such a great response from viewers about your family and would love to have you back if possible. Please let me know either way - Thanks and God’s blessings over your life.

Hi Zahasky Family: We are now into our second week back in the UK after a truly wonderful amazing holiday in Alaska. One of our last outings in Juneau after flying over the Misty Fjords was to do the City of Gold Tour of Juneau and the Salmon Bake. We wondered where on earth we were going when we drove up the road and were extremely surprised to find such a beautiful location at the back of what appeared to be an industrial estate. As we sauntered in, we were even more amazed to see the four of you standing up on the stage, playing and singing. I just felt I had to write to let you know what an inspiration that was to us - we sat at a small table to the left of Melissa, just the two of us and were mesmerized all during our wonderful meal by your music and just the sheer beauty of seeing a family doing what families should - just enjoying something together. Never mind the play stations and Ipods - What a joy to see 4 people share such a love of music. I was enchanted by the singing - I could have listened forever. However a cruise ship was calling to us and we wandered back on the bus via the waterfall, where the echo of your music still played in my ears. On the way out, we bought your CD - The Alaska String Band and I would love to buy your other CD - Master’s Design - can you let me know how I can go about that as being based here in the UK - there isn’t the opportunity to come back and hear you again - well - not at the moment. We have some wonderful photos of Alaska - some 1200 taken over our two week holiday and about three hours of video which I am going to start editing very soon - sorting out the photos has been a marathon but thoroughly enjoyable task. Whilst I am doing my photos I keep putting the CD back on and listening to the tracks - I love the singing tracks best although the music does have my feet tapping. Alaska stole our hearts - what a wonderful place to bring up and educate your wonderful children. I look forward very much to hearing from you.
