The Alaska String Band is a five-member group performing with guitars, twin fiddles, violins, bass, mandolins, percussion and vocals. Our repertoire consists of a lively collection of bluegrass, old time, gospel, swing, blues, and original music. Many songs we play are often requested favorites. Also featured are beautiful waltzes, airs and haunting melodies. We love gospel music and lace our presentation with a tasteful mix of gospel and old hymns. Much of our material dates from the pioneer days of Alaska when the Gold Rush was on and stampeders ventured north with dreams of fortune. Our band provides a singular local color, being a multi-generational family and having resided in Juneau, Alaska since 1968.

We have presented musical shows laced with historically-based Alaskan tales to visitors traveling in Alaska. For the 2005-2007 summer seasons our string band gave regular performances at the Mount Roberts Tramway and the Gold Creek Salmon Bake.

My wife Melissa and I have been making music together in Juneau and throughout Alaska for the past 25 years. We began informally instructing each of our children at an early age and are delighted to find that our passion for music is shared by the children. They are Laura (16), Quinn (13), and Abigail (9). Educating them at home has provided for unusual opportunities to enhance their musical experience.
